about

'I've Never Been to Hammerfest in Northern Norway But My Friend Jo Says That When She Played This There The Locals Thought It Was Made From The Sounds Of The Boats In The Distance' is made from the processed sounds of glockenspiel, cello and violin. Gentle drones, glowing string chords and hints of brass-like sonorities, build to a gleaming climax that in turn gently ebbs away into the distance.

'A Loss of Sharp Focus (Resonance of a Mass)' is made from a piece of vocal music by the Renaissance composer Josquin Desprez: The Agnus Dei from his Missa La sol fa re mi. Vocal lines have been time-stretched, pitch-shifted, layered and resonated to become an echo of the music across time: the reverberations of Josquin’s piece in resonant spaces over the centuries.

'Hammerfest (Septimus Octopus Mix)' is a more ambient, warm mix - subaquatic in feel. It's less 'composed' than the first mix on the album - a meandering wander beneath the waves.
